<p><strong>That’s not all that’s happening gardening-wise in Woodbine:</strong></p>
<p><strong>The Together We Grow program through Second Harvest Food Bank and Earth Matters Tennessee, with supplemental funding by Mr. and Mrs. Brad Paisley and Tractor Supply Company is helping  kids learn about growing food by teaching them to plant bucket gardens, and Coleman Park is already a working site. The goal is to have 15 sights, with each sight having approximately 20 bucket gardens. When school is out for the summer, the buckets can go home with the kids.</strong></p>

<p><strong>In a project loosely based on <a href="http://www.seattle.gov/neighborhoods/ppatch/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/www.seattle.gov/neighborhoods/ppatch/?referer=');">Seattle’s P-Patch Gardens</a>, but on a much smaller scale, the first membership-based community raised bed garden is being planned by neighbors near Oriel Avenue. The hope is that other Woodbiners and Nashvillians will see the value in turning empty lots into gardens.</strong></p>

<p><strong>Earlier this spring, <a href="http://www.kab.org/site/PageServer?pagename=index" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/www.kab.org/site/PageServer?pagename=index&amp;referer=');">Keep America Beautiful</a> announced a record-setting goal to recruit 4 million volunteers to participate in their annual Great American Cleanup, the nation&#8217;s largest community improvement program.</strong></p>
<p><strong>The Great American Cleanup, like spring, offers us a wonderful opportunity to refresh our communities – by cleaning up, to be sure – but also by planting, rebuilding and renewing. This strength in numbers was on full display during their first-ever Great American Cleanup National Day of Action on Saturday, April 28. Keep America Beautiful lined up spotlight events in 10 cities across the country and Nashville was one of those 10 cities. </strong></p>
<p><strong>Members of the Woodbine Neighborhood Association were proud to represent the 16<sup>th</sup> District with the 3<sup>rd</sup> annual Woodbine Spring Clean, and we couldn’t have had such a successful cleanup without the continued support of <a href="http://www.nashville.gov/pw/beautification/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/www.nashville.gov/pw/beautification/?referer=');">Metro Nashville’s Beautification and Environmental Commission</a>. Thanks guys!</strong></p>

<p><strong> Nashville was chosen this year as one of 10 cities in Keep America Beautiful&#8217;s National Day of Action, so our third annual neighborhood clean-up will be on that date: Saturday April 28th at 9:00 am, and we&#8217;ll meet at the Woodbine Community Organization at 222 Oriel Avenue. Last year we had so many volunteers that we covered a HUGE area including Whitsitt School. So this year we&#8217;re going to use Monday&#8217;s meeting and potluck* as a time to plan well, to make this our best clean-up yet.</strong></p>
<p><strong> Join us Monday night, 4/16, at 6 pm at Coleman Park Community Center, bring something yummy, and help us map out neighborhood clean-up routes.</strong></p>
<p><strong> *As for the potluck meetings: Our board tried an experiment with these monthly potlucks and most everyone likes the idea, so we&#8217;ll keep them going! While this will be a regularly scheduled meeting, we&#8217;ll keep our announcements brief. Hope you can make it!</strong></p>

<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Taste of Woodbine Restaurant Neighborhood Nights</span></strong></p>
<p><strong>The Taste of Woodbine series continues in the new year! The first Monday of each month (Margarita Monday) you know you’ll run into other Woodbiners at <a href="http://www.lahanashville.com/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/www.lahanashville.com/?referer=');">La Hacienda</a>, and now we can say the same for the second Monday of each month at <a href="http://gingerthairestaurant.com/index.htm" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/gingerthairestaurant.com/index.htm?referer=');">Ginger Thai Restaurant</a>, and the 4th Monday of each month at <a href="http://www.houseofkabobnashvilletn.com/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/www.houseofkabobnashvilletn.com/?referer=');">House of Kabob</a>! With our monthly neighborhood meetings occurring on the 3rd Monday of each month, there’s now a way to catch up with your neighbors each week. Taste of Woodbine Neighborhood Nights for March are as follows: March 5<sup>th</sup> at La Hacienda, March 12<sup>th</sup> at Ginger, and March 26<sup>th</sup> at House of Kabob. All times are 6:30 PM-ish. These restaurants are just a few to get you started–Woodbine is full of fresh, authentic food, so dive in!</strong></p>

<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">March Meeting</span></strong></p>
<p><strong>At our next Woodbine Neighborhood Association meeting on <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Monday March 19<sup>th</sup> at 6:00 PM, at Coleman Park Community Center</span>, we’re thanking those in Metro Government who were so helpful to us in our first year, especially the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhoods, Metro Nashville Police Department, and Metro Public Works—without whom we could not have had such success with traffic calming measures in Woodbine. We’ll have a special potluck in their honor, and also do garden planning and choose a date for our annual Woodbine Spring Clean (usually held in April of each year). </strong></p>
<p><strong>WNA meetings are held on the third Monday of each month, at 6:00 PM, at Coleman Park Community Center.</strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">where’s woodbine? </span></strong></p>
<p><strong>Woodbiners Extraordinaire Tosha and Chris came up with what we think is a fabulous idea for our very first Woodbine bumper sticker: “where’s woodbine?”  We hear that a lot when we tell people we live in Woodbine, so this is a fun way to draw attention to our neighborhood. It’ll have the WNA website link too, so people can see exactly where Woodbine’s located!</strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Membership Renewal</span></strong></p>
<p><strong>Last but not least, if you haven’t yet renewed your WNA membership, it’s easy to do so. Membership is open to all, at only $10.00 per household. Remember, annual voting is limited to members who actually reside in Woodbine but all other perks apply to all paid members (such as periodic discounts at neighborhood businesses, AND knowing you’re helping your neighborhood). <p>Woodbiners, listen up! This month we welcome special guests Cathie Dodd of the non-profit <a href="http://http://www.woodbinecommunity.org/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/http_//www.woodbinecommunity.org/?referer=');">Woodbine Community Organization</a>, and Martin Kennedy of the <a href="http://http://boysprep.net/home.html" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/http_//boysprep.net/home.html?referer=');">Boys Preparatory Nashville </a>charter school. Cathie will be speaking to us about the many resources the WCO has to offer, such as VITA (help with tax preparation), The Woodbine Senior Citizens’ group, Financial Fitness courses, the Homebuyers’ Club, Loss Mitigation for those who have received foreclosure notifications, and the Hardest Hit Fund (mortgage assistance for those who have had a 30% or more decrease in income). If you know of anyone in our neighborhood who could benefit from any of these programs/ classes, please make sure to bring them to the meeting.</p>
<p>Cathie will also bring along Martin Kennedy, founder of Boys’ Preparatory Nashville, to talk to us about a new charter school for boys opening soon in South Nashville. This will be an information-packed night with something for everyone, we hope you&#8217;ll join us!</p>
